The Retreat is scheduled for Shabbat of Memorial Day weekend that embodies the best of Kol Ami. It is a celebration of a multi-generational, diverse and dynamic community. In one day you can enjoy everything from lounging by the lake with a good book or good friends, religious study, crafts and drama to sports, dancing and swimming.
The retreat is essentially about community. There is the opportunity to participate in lakeside Shabbat services and in religious study groups. But, there is a wide range of activities offered and what you participate in is totally your choice.
Whether you join us overnight or the day, with your family or by yourself, we know you will have a wonderful time. The following is a list of Frequently Asked Questions that we have developed to give you as comprehensive an understanding about the weekend as possible.
What types of activities are offered? Is there a specific schedule that I have to follow? There are numerous activities from which to choose. The activities are as diverse as Kol Ami is! While scheduled at specific times, you can come and go as you choose, as well as attend as many or as few of the offerings. There is NO pressure to attend any of the activities.
The activities include sports (tennis, boating, swimming, basketball, yoga, etc.), arts and crafts for adults and kids, campfires, discussion groups, lakeside Shabbat services and a wonderful Havdalah by the campfire with s’mores, and so much more! Click on the Retreat link at www.nykolami.org to see our planned activities schedule to see what will be offered this year. Whatever you choose, we guarantee laughter and memories that will last until the next year brings us back together. Check back soon to see our schedule.
Where is the Retreat? The Retreat returning to Circle Lodge in Hopewell Junction, NY, approximately 1 hour from White Plains.
What does the cost of the Retreat cover? The cost of the Retreat covers dinner Friday night, all the food you can eat (including three buffet meals a day with food for all eating preferences and snacks available throughout the day), the youth counselors and other staff members, all the activities that are offered . It is Kol Ami’s version of paying for an all-inclusive get-away!
We have young children – will they have things to do and will we be able to enjoy the adult activities offered? Children have their own extensive list of choices to make this the perfect weekend for all. Youth Directors Genna Farley and Ben Schein lead a group of experienced counselors who are there to provide your children with fun activities and to make sure that they are cared for and supervised while you attend the activities that interest you. For younger children, there are special activities at our Children’s Center, supervised by experienced staff. And, of course, there are lots of things to do together as a family.
Will I be comfortable at the Retreat if I come alone? Each year, people come to the Retreat on their own. But, they are never “alone”! We are all together as a community.
What if I have other questions? Please feel free to contact Lori Okun (761-8470), Laura Barzilai (472-8478), Laura Wiliker (725-6010), or anyone who has been to the retreat before, if you have any other questions. Click here for registration materials or here to register on-line. |
