“One Who Sings Prays Twice” A Hassidic saying
"Praise God with a shofar blast with strings and lute, with drum and with dance"
From Psalm 150"
Music is at the very heart of Jewish worship, bringing joy, personal insight and a unique sense of community. At Congregation Kol Ami, our worship services are inviting, fulfilling, comforting, joyous, and filled with music – creating a beautiful musical experience as well as an environment inspiring full and spirited congregational participation. By exploring together the multicolored fabric of Jewish music, we have the unique opportunity to create an inclusive spiritual home for our own members, as well as for others searching for a connection to Judaism.
The music in our services ranges from the innovative Musical Shabbat – in which the congregation sings most of the service accompanied by our own band – to the choral and organ-based music that connects us to our roots as Reform Jews. Drawing upon the richness of the entire Jewish sacred repertoire, our worship is set to music that summons emotion from our core and brings it to the air in melodies and tones that are both ancient and renewed. No one style of Jewish music is sanctioned; the only criteria is that the music serve the text and inspire the worshiper.
