The Junior Youth Groups at Congregation Kol Ami consist of two separate groups: a group for 5th and 6th graders and a group for 7th and 8th graders. Both groups engage in monthly fun and meaningful activities and focus on Jewish values of chavurah (community), tikkun olam (repairing the world), and manhigut (leadership). For the Junior Youth Groups at Kol Ami, meaningful Jewish learning is best done in a fun, engaging, communal, and safe environment.
Some highlights of this past year were:
- The "Now Famous" 5th/6th Grade Sleepover. At the sleepover we focused on the power of community while celebrating Shabbat together. Afterwards we engaged in a Passover - themed scavenger hunt and then settled down to a movie before bed.
- The 4th, 5th and 6th Grade Retreat. The primary goals of this weekend were: team building, leadership and community. We spent a weekend at the beautiful Camp Ramapo. The highlight of this trip was the ropes course that taught the value of teamwork. Many lasting friendships were made during this weekend.
- Silent Auction to benefit social action and the temple. The 7th and 8th graders spearheaded a silent auction to benefit Kol Ami's Social Action Committee and their work in social justice. This year we were able to raise over $1,000.00!
Other activities have also included:
- Trips to Rye Playland
- Ice Skating
- Swim Party
- Community service opportunities
Jewish learning will always be a part of every activity. Activities take place approximately once a month.
